my essay. 97% bullshit, especially the last paragraph:

The Fourteenth Amendment of the United States is possibly one of the most important in our Consitution because it protects our individual rights as citizens, and protects our life, liberty, and property. It was originally created when slavery was abolished and ended up giving equal rights to all citizens. It actually makes the "all men are created equal" statement in the Preamble a fact, and grants us our freedom. Equal Protection Under the Law is a right to every citizen granted by the Fourteenth Amendment.
The Fourteenth Amendment was created on July 9th, 1868 to give citizens equal rights. With equal rights, many people would come to the United States to become citizens and have more freedom than they would in their own country. With this, the United States becomes more diverse as a country. Every citizen in the United States is protected by this law to have a right to their own freedoms of religion, speech, press, and more.
In several instances, Equal Rights hasn't been granted. In the Dred Scott v. Sanford Supreme Court case of 1857, Dred Scott was overruled and not allowed his rights due to being a slave. Also before the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case of 1954, black students were denied equal education rights as white students, due to separate schools and segregation, but after a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court ruling, education was equal for students of all ages, and the civil rights movement became more powerful.
This system still has it's flaws. Many citizens have alot of equal rights, but some still aren't. For instance, poor and less fortunate Americans who don't have jobs don't have healthcare to cover for them, in the instance that they caught some sort of disease or sickness. Also, homosexual Americans aren't allowed to be married, but now the laws are changing in some states to where they can be married. In our legal system, this is further flawed by the fact that in one state, somebody could commit a crime and receive only 5 years in jail when someone who committed the same crime in another state would only receive 3 years in jail. Some of these flaws will hopefully be fixed eventually for now, but as of the current moment, they are still major political issues.
In all, the United States of America still gives you the most freedom of any other country, no matter how many flaws in the government's system there are. Eventually, some of the flaws will be fixed and our country will live up to it's statement in the Preamble to the Constitution which states "in order to form a more perfect Union.." America isn't perfect, but with the diversity and freedom it has, it's on it's way to becoming better than it has been.
